Error:
Illegal operation in KERNEL32.DLL. Excel caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 014f:bff858cd.
Cause:
The initialization files located in the Windows Registry may be corrupted.
Solution:
Edit the Registry and open 'Software' then 'Microsoft' then 'Excel' in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder. Rename the 7.0 section to 70.old.
CAUTION: Editing the Registry may cause file corruption if not done properly. It is recommended that this be performed by experienced technical support.
1) Exit Excel.
2) Click 'Start' todisplay the Windows 'Start' menu.

3) Select 'Run...'.
4) Type REGEDIT in the 'Open' box.
5) Make a backup of the Registry.
6) Click 'OK'.
7) Double-click on the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder. (A list of subfolders appears.)
8) Double-click on the 'Software' folder to list the subfolders.

9) Double-click on the 'Microsoft' folder.

10) Double-click on the 'Excel' folder. (The 7.0 folder appears.)
11) Right-click on the name section of the 7.0 folder. (A Shortcut menu appears.)
12) Select 'Rename' from the Shortcut menu.
13) Type the following as the new name: 70.old
14) Select 'Exit' from the 'Registry' menu to exit Registration Editor.
15) Restart Excel.
